April Ross
April Ross was one of just a handful of women beach volleyball stars who won medals in more than one Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days she will attempt to net her third medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross will also be hoping for her first Olympic medal. At 39 she could have her final chance. However, she's confident that winning the gold medal is within reach. Ross told NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best or play a great game and they are able to play well, the team could win a gold medal. Also, I'll take the opportunity to try my chance. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her father, mother and younger sister. The athletic pursuits she pursued was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she was a part of a number of activities. As a prep-athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. But she stood out during this game. According to her bio, during high school she played volleyball as an outside hitter (middle blocker) as well as a setter (outside blocker). Thanks to her hard work, she was honored as the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. The skills she showed in volleyball also earned her an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in the year 2000. Ross Klineman and Ross may have begun working together at the beginning of 2017, but Ross was already an established athlete at the beach prior to when they teamed up. It's true that she has had the chance to win numerous tournaments, including one with a legendary volleyball player. Ross teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and she also served as Klineman's coach. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who took home the title of world champion together with Kessy in 2009, was also significant on the international stage. In 2012, the pair were awarded silver medals at the London Olympic Games. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team along with Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor after she had retired. The pair won the beach volleyball bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross participated in the USC Trojans in college after graduating from in high school. The time she spent in the Trojans' ranks was a memorable one. When she was a freshman in 2000 the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA the Freshman of the Year award. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to the Final Four. After her sophomore year she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet was able to be named an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons, she took the Trojans up to the summit and took home consecutive national championships. The individual accomplishments of her have established her place as a legendary volleyball player. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross studied the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross wasn't able to watch her daughter's rise to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer while she was a sophomore in USC. Her mother is still dear. Margie remains an inspiration both on and off of the shore.
